Murals

Some of the murals done on these pages have been painted on canvas and then adhered to the wall on site. Many of my favorite murals would be considered “trompe’ l’oeil as the French would say. It means “to fool the eye”. We Americans would probably pronounce it “tromp loy”.
Much of Micheangelo’s work was done this way to mimic cornices and moldings which were often painted in “faux marble” to imitate the real thing.  Since I can’t compare myself to him, the trompe’ l’oeil murals you see here, though they may not appear to be be photo realistic, still beckon a visitor to stop and stare, and then smile, for it is a very clever way to add a window or a doorway to a once windowless or door less space, such as a small powder room or kitchen.
